Al Gore III: A Bigger Tragedy Than You Think

I'd like to take a minute to talk about the recent arrest of Al Gore's son, Al III on various drug and dangerous driving charges.

I'm not going to make fun or light of the situation. A drug addicted child is a tragedy and I wouldn't wish it on even a corrupt pompous blowhard like Al Gore.

What I would like know is why this is the first we've heard of this behaviour?

According to some reports poor Al III's problems with drugs go way back to when his father was Vice President.

The Bush twins sneak a couple of beers before their 21st birthday and it's a national scandal that's still being dredged up today, years after the fact.

Governor Jeb Bush's daughter's own fight with drug addiction (to many of the same drugs) was also given a lot of publicity, and he wasn't even a national politician.

Al Gore III's problem existed out of the public spotlight, stuck to the far back pages of the news. No late night comedians or sitcoms made any jokes about it, and there were no strident editorials condemning the boy's behaviour as a sign of moral rot in his family.

This de-facto silence was broken when he did something that couldn't be ignored. Speeding his Prius over 100 mph, breaking the law, but getting great gas mileage.

Would have been given the same privacy if Al Gore II was a Republican?

Think about it.

And while you're at it, keep watching the skies, because we're watching you.

I'm shocked a Prius can reach 100mph. Was it downhill?

and you can rest assured that the reporter who wrote the story is now dressed in sack cloth and ashes, flagellating himself with a spiked chain and begging forgiveness at the altar of the Goreacle. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if this indivual took out a second mortgage on the house and contributed all of the money to the Goreacle's carbon credit company.

You have distilled the very essence of the substantive matter and the American dream.

It has been in the press before that Al Gore’s son was arrested back in 2004 for pot. They immediately put him in a drug abuse program (which apparently did not stick). The reason you did not hear about it is because…well…no one gave a shit. Now that Al Gore is back in the media, we get the full details.

Funny, I’ve always thought cover-ups were much better under Republican “rule”. I mean look at Clinton. The man could not even get a BJ without the entire world knowing. Ewwwwwwwwwwwww!

I didn't say the stories weren't covered at all. They just ended up in the proverbial back pages.

The Bush twins snuck into a couple of bars, stupid behaviour yes, but it was treated as a sign of the rapture.

And the attention paid by the press to Bill Clinton's sexual peccadilloes were just a prurient excuse to avoid looking at his questionable business dealings and campaign financing from China.

Yes, Moxie, I agree.

This is really a non story except for what also struck me. Basically the contrast in treatment the Bush daughters got/get.

Yep, the Bush daughters are working on helping people in Africa and other places.
